I've used many database programs in the past and continue to try others,
but Alpha has been my database of choice for over 10 years. The ease
and speed of development combined with enough power to handle the most
complex needs of my clients makes the decision a no-brainer. Version 5
now offers a number of new features that the end user will appreciate,
and total programming time may even be less due to the improved
development interface.
Cal Locklin started developing databases in 1986 with DBaseIII. He later switched to Clipper in 1989 for more power but programming with Clipper took a long time so he looked around for something faster and found Alpha 4 version 2 in 1990 and has been a confirmed Alpha user ever since.
Cal has a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in Business Management. He worked in the automotive industry for many years as an engineer, application engineering manager, and project manager but has now decided to do something he enjoys more -- he has started his own database consulting company, AIMS DataCom. His primary customers include a school, trucking company, chemical analysis company, waste oil recycler, supplier of preschool packages, manufacturer's rep, and a small casting company. As 'hobbies' he has been a licensed builder, certified auto mechanic, and has had an amateur radio license since junior high school. His recent adventures include flying in some WWII airplanes (Stearman Bi-plane, B-25 bomber, T-6 fighter trainer) and walking across the Grand Canyon with his brother.
