I have been playing with build 1014 with the right click configuration,
and all I can say is "Good job". Overall, I like the way it works. For
some reason, I couldn't visualize exactly how this would work from your
email. The problem wasn't your explanation, which was right on, just my
ability to "see" how it would work. It may add a step or two to emulate
existing behavior from 4.5, but with all of the options available, that
is a very small price to pay. I especially like the little "help" text
on the field menu selection tab - very nice.
Working with A5V5 is kinda like wondering in a toy store, there is more
fun around every corner. Ultimately, I like every new feature I have
tried. This is the first software I have used lately that doesn't make
you work hard, or jump through hoops, to get things done. Some aspects
are a little quirky, like being surprised when the auto fill-in in the
script designer adds something unexpected, like adding a parentheses,
but these things have no real effect on the functionality of the
program.
The program does seem to add overhead, but apps I have tested run only
slightly slower in v5 after I have opened and resaved menus, toolbars,
and forms. This is on a slow 300 Pentium with only 64 meg ram. On a 1.4
Pentium with 124 meg ram, the speed difference is not very noticeble.
Design mode is something else, but even the 300 is usable, just slow.
Screen handling is much improved. No flicker, and much more stable. I
have one situation in v4.5 where switching screens was a little unstable
because of timing issues from scripts running on OnDeactivate on one
form and Onactivate on the next. In V5, the same forms seem rock solid.
